The Phage Hunters Training & Research Program (PHTRP) Journal Club is our flagship immersive training experience for students who want to build their research identity and launch their journey into phage biology and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) research.
This program is designed to move you beyond passive learning into the practice of the scientific method.
What You'll Learn
- Critically engage with scientific literature to identify research gaps.
- Formulate clear, testable research questions and design strong hypotheses.
- Apply computational tools for genome annotation and prophage prediction.
- Use comparative genomics and public databases for data exploration.
- Clean, analyze, and visualize bioinformatics data using R.
- Practice phage isolation techniques during the wet-lab practicum.
- Communicate your science clearly through visuals, reports, and presentations.
Who We are Looking For
We welcome undergraduate and early-career scientists from East and Central Africa who are passionate about:
- Phage Science
- Understanding bacteriophages and antimicrobial resistance.
- Building real research experience and technical skills.
- Growing in a collaborative, mentorship-driven environment.
